Here is some of my various works, as there are very few things I do twice, even if the same animal is done the position or action would be completely different. The only time my work is duplicated is like the belt buckles or caneheads where I am reproducing them by the mold method and they are cast in a resin, this way keeping the price down. Most people wonder why one of a kind pieces are so expensive. They have no concept as to the amount of time put into a piece. Example; the research on the subject, many trips to the library or on field trips to take photos, usually many sketches, some very detailed or their may be a clay model made to go by if enough good reference pictures cannot be found. Then the piece is started in wood, with wood as stone, once the chip hits the floor it cannot be put back on, so there is a lot of just looking, turning the piece, measuring if you have a life size clay model. A piece according to its size or complexity could take from days to weeks.

Close/up American Alligator

The name "Found Fox" comes from the fact that I was at a friends house in Parkersburg, WVa. and the piece was laying on a pile of walnut board, it was a cut off from a project he was working on. I asked if I could have it ( I saw the fox immeditaly ) he said it was going in the fire place so take it and use it. The eyes, nose and mouth were already in the board, most likely due to a worm or some kind of disease. I did nothing to them. The surface of the board was lightly sanded and lines drawn for the outline of head, ears and snout. These lines were carved by relieving the lines, leaving the gouge marks. I made the ears larger than they normaly would be, so as to include all of the nice dark grain within the left ear. I did nothing else to the board, it is as I picked it up.
